2016 ALLIANCE ADVOCATE TRAINING BEGINS THIS WEEK

SNA Executive Director Mesganw Bimrew has been selected and participated in the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road safety empowerment program which was held in Memphis, Tennessee at FedEx head quarter.
The Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety launched its first Alliance Advocate training program this week. The Advocates started a state-of-the art training course at FedEx Headquarters that runs from 23 August to 1 September in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. This two-week tailored course is part of the Alliance Empowerment Program, a capacity building program that aims to improve the ability of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) working in road safety around the world. The Empowerment Program designs and implements initiatives that significantly reduce the risk of injuries and fatalities on the world’s roads, where 1.2 million people die in road traffic accidents each year. The Alliance Advocate training program gives representatives from 15 countries the opportunity to grow their expertise as they advocate for safer roads.

Alliance Advocates will be role models who promote desired practices for helmet use, seatbelt use, speed management, drink and drive behavior, and safe school infrastructure. They also advocate for policy change in risk areas and hold governments accountable. Candidates were selected through a rigorous, competitive, application process among Alliance Member NGOs to become Alliance Advocates.
