Yango and Save the Nation Launch Safer School Zone Project to Protect Ethiopian Students

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, The Yango-Save the Nation Safer School Zone Project officially kicked off today with the first road safety workshop at Tikur Anbessa Secondary School.
This school was selected because of its extreme vulnerability. It sits directly along one of Addis Ababa's busiest highways eight lanes of fast-moving traffic where students face serious risk every single day simply walking to and from class.
Save the Nation has selected four schools to benefit from this road safety education program, each chosen based on their high exposure to traffic injury risk.
Yango Leads by Example
This program is powered by Yango Ethiopia, and Save the Nation is deeply impressed by Yango's determination to protect and save the lives of students from possible road crashes.
Yango is one of the leading ride-hailing companies operating in Ethiopia. Rather than simply running a business, they have chosen to lead by example investing in the well-being of the community they serve.
Yango's commitment to road safety is not new. Across Africa, Yango has consistently invested in initiatives that protect drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. In Zambia, for example, Yango partnered with local organizations to improve school zone safety and train drivers on defensive driving, safety features, mental health awareness, and respectful conduct. That project reached thousands of learners and set new benchmarks for the ride-hailing industry.
Now, Yango is bringing that same spirit of corporate responsibility to Ethiopia.
What This Project Will Deliver
The Safer School Zone Project includes:
· Road safety education workshops for students at four schools
· Infrastructure improvements at selected schools, including speed humps, zebra crossings, signage, and protective barriers
· Training of School Road Brigades to manage student crossings safely
· Establishment of Road Safety Clubs and Safety Committees for long-term sustainability
· iRAP-compliant assessments to ensure all interventions meet international safety standards
