Who We Are

SNA was founded with the vision of protecting children, students, and communities from imminent traffic injury — reducing the property damage and deaths caused by road crashes. Save the Nation's establishment traces back to its founder and Executive Director, Mr. Mesganaw Bimrew, who is himself one of the victims of a traffic accident: he lost his beloved father, a pedestrian, who was hit by a public bus while walking on the roadside near the Megenagna Amche ring road in Addis Ababa.

SNA works to mitigate and prevent the challenges facing vulnerable road users — among them young people aged five and above. We facilitate road safety programs to increase the knowledge of school children, youth, and disabled and visually impaired persons and provide reflector clothes. Our work includes changing road-use behavior, raising awareness, advocacy, lobbying, material support, financial aid for low-income school children, community events and outreach, and road safety awareness campaigns that empower vulnerable road users to protect themselves through careful use of roads.

We work with the Ethiopian Police Commission traffic police department, the Ethiopian Federal Police Commission, Ethiopian road authorities, Ethiopian fire prevention and emergency services, Ethiopian health institutions, the Ethiopian Ministry of Education, and the Ethiopian children and women affairs office to promote and carry out road safety campaigns throughout the country.

We coordinate all aspects of our road safety campaigns between our partners and stakeholders to ensure they reach the widest possible audience. With ever-increasing constraints on budgets, road safety professionals find it harder to meet their obligation to reduce accidents and injuries on our roads. We appeal to well-wishers and supporters — including corporates, international non-governmental organizations, and carefully selected sponsors who are equally committed to reducing accidents on our roads.
